I was really impressed with a lot of the videos. Some of them actually made me think about some of the things they were mentioning in the videos. This week we really started learning new things as the video project came to an end. We talked about desire paths and looked a pictures of paths. Most of the pictures were paths that branched on from the main path. Essentially people wanted t o create their own pathway and not follow the rest of the group. We also picked out a new book. We did a little class activity where we wrote 3 words that you think of when you hear the words power, story, leadership, passion, and purpose. With the words we thought of everyone in the class made up a question. I'm interested to see how the question I chose plays out with the book I chose. I'm interested to see how this project for this book even turns out. I'm not entirely sure what all the project consists of but I think it should be interesting.
As the weeks go on these reflective learning blogs get easier and easier. I'm starting to understand more what is expected out of them, which isn't a whole lot so that's nice. I kind of like them cause it makes you recap on everything you've learned in the past week and refresh your memory. It sounds like next week is going to consist of a lot of reading. I'm not the fondest of reading but this book seems fairly short so I should be able to push through it pretty easily. 10/13/2016 0 Comments Week 5: Time is EverythingThis week for me has kind of been a free for all. Since we were all given a few extra days to work on it I feel like our videos will be much higher quality. We haven’t really learned much this week because we’ve been focusing so hard on making our I belive videos perfect. However, it did make me realize that even if you’re doing the same project everyone works at different paces. Most of the time those that are working slower are only doing that because they have no motivation to do it. I felt the need to finish all of my work in class so that I wouldn't have homework because that is my least favorite thing about school. I believe everyone should take full advantage of the time we are given in class.
Not much has changed from last week to this week though. Especially with a fog delay and a whole day cancellation. I can’t wait to see everyone’s videos on monday and to see all the hard work and what it has turned into. This weeks reflective learning blog is probably very similar to last weeks. As we’ve mostly just been learning how to work Wevideo. Hopefully next week when we get to writing our one pager, creative writing and starting to learn new stuff I will have more to write about in the week six reflective learning blog. 9/30/2016 0 Comments Week 4: More than a paperThis week we've done something a little different. I had never heard of Wevideo until this week. It's a very cool thing to use and made writing a paper a lot easier. Usually you just write a paper and turn it in then call it good. Last week we wrote the paper but this week we took it a step farther by turning it into a video with pictures, music, and your very own voice. I thought that creating the video was a lot of fun even though I'm not completely done with it yet. This project wasn't only fun but I also learned quite a bit from it as well. I learned how to communicate through videos and pictures and make it sound like a legit conversation. I also learned how to make my own rubric which I've never had the privilege of doing before and that was very nice. The rubric included things such as imagery, a soundtrack, and economy to convey a point. Being able to turn my personal story and thoughts into a video is something I've never been able to do before and I've actually enjoyed it. This week was all about learning how to use wevideo and how to express yourself in a way you usually don't. I learned that there are many different ways to communicate through art and a video is only one of them!
9/30/2016 0 Comments Week 3: Workshop WeekA lot happened in week 3. We had a guest speaker/presentation type thing that the whole school attended one day so that shortened our time in class one day. We had an assembly Friday that really shortened our class time as well. However, that doesn't mean we didn't learn anything. On Monday we talked about the seven elements of digital story telling .When I think of digital story telling I just think of a video of someone's life. This week I learned there's a lot more to it than just that. There's seven elements to it as a matter of fact. Those seven elements are point of view, a dramatic question, emotion, voice, soundtrack, economy, and pacing. After learning those elements we were able to begin our project knowing what is it expected to come out of them and knowing they have a purpose and it can't just be a random video with essentially no meaningful elements. Once we understood that we went into a digital storytelling workshop for the rest of the week. Those workshops were definitely used wisely for me cause there is nothing I hate more than homework, so I tried my hardest to finish my video within the time I was given in class. I think it's kind of neat how you call it a workshop because not everyone works at the same pace so we're all working on different things at a given time. I think that title "workshop" fits perfectly.
p.s. sorry this is late I was absent on the Friday of week 3. I also accidently linked the video to like 5 sentences and I didn't mean to do that but I don't know how to undo it. Haha 9/16/2016 0 Comments Week 2: ImprovementHere I am ending week 2 of school. This English class is the only real class I have this try that is going to need any effort. I'm looking to put all my effort into this class and into my writings. I've never been too excited about writing but learning more about it and how/what we're going to be writing about in this class makes me very excited. This week we've talked about "I believe" essays which has really brought me to be a better person all around. After going through all the examples of essays and seeing what everyone else believes in has broadened my thoughts and expanded what I believe in. My "I believe" essay is about kindness which I have a strong passion for. Being kind will never hurt anyone. Writing the essay was actually fun. I've never had fun writing any type of paper before, but it was nice to write about something you believe in and something you care about for once. Typically teachers will ask you to write about something you just learned and find very boring. However this wasn't the case and I'm beyond happy about that. (Essay linked below) Today you showed another students reflective learning blog and that helped me a lot. It made me realize that my last blog wasn't quite what you were looking for haha. Hopefully as weeks go on my blogs get better and better. By the end of the class my blog will be exactly what you're looking for. i_believe....gdoc This past week we've covered a few things that I've been able to understand and connect to. The very first day of class we went outside for a little activity that really made me realize how far I've come and my class has come. It also made me realize that I owe a lot of credit to those that have got me this far like my parents or friends. It really reminded me to not take people or things for granted. The second day of class we were told what is expected out of us for the trimester and for me anyways I think this class may be one of the easier english classes I've taken. I like how this class Isn't going to be your typical english class where you read a book and then you take a test over it, then you read another one and take another test. To me that's very boring and gets old really quickly, so I think I'll enjoy this class and connect more with it than I do normal english classes. This week we also choose SSR books that we will be reading every day. I like that in this class we are only reading for 15 minutes each day. In some previous english classes we would read for long periods of time and I would get very bored. However I do enjoy SSR and reading a good book every now and then. Hopefully this class is challenging but not anything too crazy!
